Cassidy Daves, Tesse Hogge and Katie Stuehmer performed wonderfully in the Florida Youth Dance Gala yesterday, February 7. Co-Directors Mr. and Mrs. Corrales set a scene based on the Second Act of Don Quixote after Marius Petipa with music by Leon Minkus. It was obvious the three dancers were an audience favorite. Thank Mauricio Canete for inviting us, and providing a stage and audience for these young people to share their passion.

Of course it's all a team effort with Mr. Corrales and Mrs. Oquendo for their daily training and coaching. There are Mr. German for guest coaching, Mrs. Marek for guest teaching, Mrs. Hoke for the fabulous new tu tus, Mrs. LoPilato for adjusting Cassidys costume and Mrs. Albarellos for warming up the girls that evening. Also. it is really great the girls parents trust and believe in what we do.

October 22, 2014
The weekend, St. Lucie Ballet Co-Director Rogelio Corrales will be performing the role of Albrecht, the young Duke, in Ballet Palm Beach's production of Giselle. The ballet is about a young innocent peasant girl who dies of a broken heart after discovering her lover (the Duke) is betrothed to another.
A group of eerie and supernatural women, The Willis, who dance men to their deaths, call Giselle from her dark grave. They target Albrecht to die for his "offense."  However, Giselle's love for him frees him from their
tightening and deadly grip.

Mr. Corrales has been a long standing principal artist with the Company. He is well known for his wonderful technique, artistry, extraordinary acting abilities, and a strong and caring partner. All of which, are important in a production like this!

Yesterday was a really big day for Ballet Level 3. It was the day they got their first pair of pointe shoes!

A young student getting her very first pair pointe shoes is probably one of the most important and most magical days of her life.

St. Lucie Ballet is very strict as to the age a child is ready for pointe. Safety and long term development is incredibly important. Though a student may really want them, it does not mean they are physically ready to wear and work in them. Putting a child in pointe shoes when they are too young can be extremely detrimental. Age does not necessarily make them ready. The body and feet must be developed enough to handle them.

When it's time, Dire ctors Mr. and Mrs. Corrales actually go with the students, as a group, to the dance wear store. They ensure each individual student is fitted properly with the correct shoe.

Now, begins the extra specialized training, classes and very hard work that comes with pointe work. It also begins a career’s life-time of yet more shoes, and toe pads, band aids and blisters.

However, every dancer will always agree. It is all well worth it when they experience the joy of dancing.

Congratulations to Ballet Level 3. Co Directors Rogelio Corrales and Lydia Qquendo, and the staff of St. Lucie Ballet are very proud of their hard work and accomplishments!

St. Lucie Ballet now boasts of having an amazing art installation by world renowned artist Zard.

St. Lucie Ballet Directors Lydia and Rogelio Corrales met her about four years ago. While at Fort Pierce Central High School, Mrs. Corrales was helping Band Director Mathew Boswell and Drama Director Lisa Stewart with their yearly musical as their choreographer. Zard was building and painting their scenery.

Shortly after, she was hired to paint the hard pieces of scenery of both Swanilda and Dr. Coppelius' houses for the 2011 presentation of Coppelia. Ever since then, Mrs. Corrales had been wanting her to paint something large for the inside of the studio.

After a few years of collaboration, Zard was formerly commissioned. Pictures of various dancers were sent to her. Some of them are actually St. Lucie Ballet's very own ballerinas Tessa Hogge, Cassidy Daves and Katie Stuehmer. Mrs. Corrales asked her to create something with dancers in silhouette while depicting three favorite dance styles of Ballet, Jazz, and Modern. Colors were discussed color just a bit
...And Zard just went for it!

The large triptych fills the space on the South wall of the large studio with beautiful colors and a very special energy. She truly captured the essence of each dance form.

Everyone loves them. Thank you Zard!
